In order to provide the most efficient and effective service to our customers, the below items must be adhered to so the job runs smoothly, on time and results in a beautiful project.
Order Processing and Payment:
All orders are subject to a 50% downpayment and signed document(or approval through Housecall) unless otherwise written. If approving through Housecall, there should be a link to place the deposit electronically. If not, contact your sales representative to place a down payment.
Remaining payment is due upon completion of the installation of the product. A fireplace has been installed once the fireplace box has been set and(if applicable) the vent pipe ran, not after the gas or electric is live and hooked up to the house.
Chimney Tops:
All pans are galvanized unless otherwise noted. Black or any other color will be an upcharge.
All shrouds and masonry tops are black unless otherwise noted. Any other colors will be an upcharge.
Chimney top style and color must be selected by date of fireplace install.
To be ready to measure for a chimney top, the chimney must be wrapped in whatever finishing material is being used(siding/brick/stone, etc.), or a band installed at the top to simulate the thickness of the finishing material. On new fireplace installs, we do not charge an extra trip to measure for a chimney cap if it was not ready at time of fireplace install but the chimney must be dried with plywood, plastic wrap or something else while we work to measure and build the chimney top. Colonial Fireplace is not responsible for leaks in the house before we install the chimney top. If the chimney is not ready to be measured by the fireplace installation date, it is the responsibility of the customer or builder to notify us when it is.
Fireplaces:
All fireplaces must be framed to manufacturer framing specs and if the fireplace must be elevated to meet certain design or hearth specifications, those must be framed before scheduling and installation of the fireplace, or there will be an extra trip charge to fix. Check fireplace specs to make those determinations.
Exterior chimney, if required, must be built before fireplace installation. All required firestops for inspection purposes and/or required per building code must be in place before fireplace install. If a firestop is added, a minimum 2’ clearance must be kept between any combustible material and the pipe(exception:stove pipe). Any trips to add metal firestops to fill in the gap may incur an extra charge. The contractor is responsible to make sure these clearances are maintained after install and Colonial Fireplace will not install a product that will not meet required clearances.
Vented fireplace chimneys must have the required space for the pipe to be free from framing, joists, or other combustible materials minus plywood at each firestop which we will cut out(excluding the roof which will need to be cut out going into the exterior chimney). Each fireplace uses a different size pipe with different clearances. For questions, ask your sales representative.
Electricity must be hooked up to all electric fireplaces or fireplaces with fans added by a qualified electrician. Electricity and gas must be hooked up by licensed contractors to all direct vents after install.
Extras:
All wood burning fireplaces that are installed, with use of gas (gas starter, gas logs), must use black iron pipe, not copper. Log Lighters/gas starters are available to purchase. These kits include a burner, valve, escutcheon, and key. Longer keys are also available for purchase. The black iron pipe is not included in the kit. The black iron pipe and the log lighter kit must be installed by a licensed gas fitter.
Offsets, decorative shrouds, fans, gas starters, remotes and fresh air kits are extras and are not part of the quote unless otherwise noted. If needed, those must be added during the order process so it gets delivered with the fireplace.
Logs:
Vented or vent-free fireplaces (exception: direct vent) do not include the gas logs or burner; those are priced separately. Gas lines must be roughed into all fireplaces before installation of vented or vent-free gas logs. Colonial does not rough in gas or hook up gas to the house but if a copper gas line(or electrical line) is in the chimney, we will stub it into the fireplace.
Extra trips required because one of the above needs are not met may require an extra trip and will incur a charge. Those will be done at our earliest availability but may be up to 1-2 weeks, according to our schedule openings.
