What Chimney Top Do I Need?
Different types of fireplaces may need more air space for air and smoke to move so that changes the type of chimney top we can build. This means not every chimney top design will fit every fireplace. Our chimney tops broadly split into two categories based on the type of fireplace that you have. Prefabricated and Masonry.
Prefabricated Chimney Tops (Click for more examples)
Prefabricated are most fireplaces installed in homes since the 80's. Typically they are metal boxes with metal piping. These fireplaces and their metal pipe usually already have a "termination cap" that keeps rain out of the pipe. We then build a "chimney pan" that is custom built for your chimney chase that keeps rain out of the chimney while sealing around the pipe.
The pan and termination cap do all the hard work of keeping the rain out of the house while also letting the smoke out. We can then pair the pan with a decorative top so you don't have to look at the silver termination cap. One important thing to note is because the pan keeps the rain out, the decorative top is open on the top to allow extra room for smoke to escape.

Masonry Chimney Tops (Click for more examples)
Masonry are your old school brick and mortar fireplaces. They are often in older homes but are still often installed in many custom homes. These are often either open top chimneys, have a concrete slab on top, and/or have a concrete or clay flue. On these, the chimney top we install often protects the top of the chimney from rain so our tops cover the top of the chimney to keep rain out and deflect the smoke to the sides of the top.

Note: Every chimney top is custom ordered, made specific to your house and chimney size. We may require down payments and a firm decision before we start the building process. We do not stock these chimney caps. Lead time can vary per job and style. If you really like the look of a certain top but it does not fit your fireplace type, there may be things we can do to modify and make it work.
